hello, spriggan!

art & curiosities by Leigh Ann Gagnon

Wow do I love these! (≧◡≦)

I set myself a goal of not buying a lot of new supplies or gear this year…. and then I immediately bought a bunch of Posca markers. I also got a pack of Ecoline brush pens to try out.

Total game changer! I don’t have a lot of free time, but I went from struggling to find the motivation to draw, to drawing almost every night before bed.

Technical stuff: Dye-based watercolor, can be blended and rewet. Vivid colors. Odorless. Not lightfast, so I’ll only be using them in my sketchbook. I’m using them in a Canson XL Watercolor sketchbook and they color very evenly & dry quickly without warping the paper. Available in themed sets of 5 or 10 (ie Pastels, Yellows, Reds) and assorted sets of 10/15/20/30; Dick Blick also has them available individually.

I’ve got a hodgepodge of colors now, but the one I use the most is Pastel Red. I use it for all my portrait sketches, and it’s easy to “erase” with water/ disappears under skin tones and darker colors.
