hello, spriggan!

Reading

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Umm I loved this! I’ve been seeing fanart for the series sporadically on tumblr, so I borrowed it on Libby. It was wildly entertaining and felt like such unique world building. I don’t try to actively guess the plot when I read, but early on I thought, oh I guess X is going to happen, it’s going to be this kind of setup. And I was shortly proven wrong. Every time I thought I knew what was going to happen, it didn’t. I like that. Waiting on my hold for Harrow the Ninth now.

I also like to sum up the past few months as the Alice Oseman deep dive, because I finally read Heartstopper. Then I watched it. And then I read it again. Then I got my friend to read it and every time it updates on Webtoons we go into shared withdrawal. Then we both read her other books; I just started I Was Born For This.

Heartstopper has become my comfort read; it makes me feel warm and soft inside, and I so appreciate the positive discussions of mental health, friendships, and relationships.

Watching

New Girl (Peacock): Halfway through season 6

Call the Midwife (Netflix): I started watching this after Gwen was born, a questionable choice at times because of the feels, but it is so good. ;__; I’ve been careful to dole it out and have only just hit the ten year anniversary special.

Playing

Minecraft: I think I last played in 2019 or 2020, so there’s all sorts of new stuff to explore and it’s been really fun to get back to!

Jarod and I have also been playing more card and board games lately!

The Crew: a cooperative trick taking game set in space.

Mushroom Cats: Mushrooms, cats, and art by PaperPuffin, is there a better combo?

Isle of Cats: So here’s the thing, Jarod’s really good at strategy games. I love playing them but it can be disappointing to lose all the time. This one’s been fun because it’s so complex that we genuinely don’t know who’s winning til we score at the end. It’s not hard to learn, but it is a longer game. Also, cats.

Pass the Pigs and Yahtzee with the kids for family game nights. Griffin has gotten scary good at math (thanks, Numberblocks!). Gwen is hilariously good at these betting games because she currently has no fear of losing. “Gwen, you’ve got SIXTY POINTS right now, are you sure you don’t want to save??” “Go ‘gen!!” *throws pigs and gets twenty more points*

Listening
